Sojourner Truth (1797-1883)
Born Isabella Baumfree, she escaped slavery in 1826
In 1843, she changed her name to Sojourner Truth after she felt a call from God to go and testify the hope within her.
She became an itinerant preacher, a civil and women's rights activist, as well as an outspoken advocate for abolition and temperance.
